Club Ophelia is a club for girls, 7th and 8th grade, mentored by 11th and 12th grade girls. The club began in January of 2006. It met once per week for a two hour block of time. In this time the girls learned about positive relationships without resorting to aggression of any kind (whether it be verbal, physical, spreading rumors, harassment via e-mail, etc.).
Mrs. Lucy Baloga and Mrs. Cindy Malkemus were the group leaders and had been trained by Dr. Cheryl Dellasega through Penn State University. The program is an arts-based program to teach these girls, through their interactions with each other and their mentors, how to feel better about themselves and to increase their tolerance of differences in people.
